Holding Both Life and Death
The Full Moon in Taurus on Friday, November 15th at 4:28pm EST occurs at 24 degrees of Taurus. This is a powerful and dynamic opportunity to trust and ground in your personal power, especially when the world feels like it’s crumbling around you. How can you come back to the body again and again for wisdom and love, remembering that this Earth is ancient and you are a creative wellspring within the larger picture of Life? What resources, skills and values create the future you are committed to? How can you embody them? Taurus is the slow and steady embodiment of Life loving itself: Manifestation in its greatest natural form.
We are within the Scorpio-Taurus axis, an axis of life and death. This Full Moon amplifies those feelings of the Earth as a body of form and fertility, through Taurean goddesses such as Gaia, Pachamama, Brigid and Freya, and also holds the same essences of earthly decomposition, eruption and destruction through Scorpionic goddesses of destruction such and Kali and Pele. You cannot have one without the other. The letting-go leads to the creation of the New.
We are in an unsettling phase of what lies between decomposition and creation, not knowing what the future holds. Although Taurus Full Moons typically ask us for practical awareness and sensitivity towards what makes us feel safe, this moon also delivers a particularly ungrounded experience, as it sits in tight conjunction with the planet of disruption and awakening, Uranus.
Venus entered Capricorn and is squaring the nodes, opening up the portals of karmic space and time for change to breakthrough in our interpersonal relationships.
Like the breath expanding and contracting around the heart, this is also how the Universe and the Earth expands and contracts, around a center of Love. Heart-opening exercises and breathing into your heart, keeping the energy moving forward, although it is cyclical, is excellent medicine for stagnation and heartache. We are on an evolutionary track that is accelerating and, I believe, spiraling upwards towards greater awareness of our Spiritual Truths. Gabor Mate, the great trauma therapist of our time, speaks of Healing as not the avoidance or getting rid of pain, but it is the capacity to hold pain.
That which is unpredictable, and chaotic is becoming fully present, particularly in areas of our life which signify basic survival needs, such as finance, resources, cars, bills, or health. Saturn is simultaneously stationing direct on the Full Moon day, and will be drawing focus until December. This archetypal “Father” planet of stoicism and cold, hard reality may have us dealing with things we have taken for granted. What have you let slide or go overdue for too long, that you must now deal with: bills, doctors appointments, repairs, or structural needs that makeup our basic survival? What feelings of responsibility do you need to face? Collectively, how have our structural systems let us down in these areas, so that we are now facing the backlash of this failure?
The medicine in Taurus can always come back to ancestral knowledge that you are part of something beyond you. Everything is breaking down and we don’t know what we will become, but we can begin to take slow, steady steps towards the future goal. Consistency, reliability and thinking long-term, is a Taurean virtues.
So, state what your long term plan / dream is that can sustain you in terms of money, health, etc., not just for yourself, but for others as well. This is a powerful time to stand in your power and hone in on what you are creating towards future sustainability.
Scorpio is the shapeshifter, though not always immediately noticeable, this water sign can erode mountains over time. Look at the area of Scorpio in your chart that has sustained long, slow, steady change. Celebrate the change that has occurred over the years in that area of your life. At the same time, be real about what still need changing and set those intentions accordingly.
Additionally, Mercury retrograde will be occurring in Sagittarius beginning November 25th, offering an invitation to alchemize a self-limiting way of perceiving our reality into something more expansive that will open up new pathways and possibilities.
“When we attempt to create change from a place of anxiety or outrage, we often replicate the very conflicts we are protesting. I believe there’s a more intimate form of protest – a rebellion before the rebellion – that needs to happen at the deepest level of the self before any meaningful change can be made in the world. That rebellion is against the tyrannical forces of oppression within each of us that restrict us from accessing our own originality.”
